This has a lot of similarities to last years #1 by Daghraven: both albums apply a spectral lens to a real-world context. Music can be composed for different contexts, but what both Braveyoung and Daghraven seem to be interested in is capturing the uncertainty and great weight that life can have. This music is perfectly willing to admit that life can appear as one great obscuration, that, upon finding the invention of fire within one's heart, life can be a particularly dark affair that requires effort to achieve illumination and some semblance of clarity. This music is severe, but it is not mean-spirited or macabre, just somber and contemplative-- searching.
